How many kilograms are in 1 cup? Now I know.

I really enjoy baking when it's from a box. I have never really tired to bake anything from scratch, but there is no such thing as baking from a box here. I have told the family I live with about different American foods that I would be willing to make with the kids. Today, we attempted to make chocolate chip muffins from scratch! This was a little harder than I wanted it to be because all the measurements were different since they use grams and kilograms, not cups or anything I am used to. Using conversions online, we were able to maybe put together a muffin mix! I was kind of worried about the outcome since I wasn't even sure if we added the baking soda. Too many things going on in the kitchen with 3 kids all trying to crack eggs, stir, and measure ingredients at the same time. Chocolate was a problem. They had a bar of chocolate to use, not chocolate chips. I came up with the genius idea of using a cheese grater. That sort of worked.
We managed to make 24 miniature muffins. While the kids were outside on the trampoline, I cut up a banana and placed slices of banana on their plates along with a fresh baked muffin. I melted some of the remaining chocolate and drizzled it over the banana slices and poured it on the top of the muffins. It looked so good! The children were impressed. Simon told me in his little French accent, "It's Delicious!" That's like..all he can say in english.

We entertained each other today by dancing!! We played Just Dance 2 on the Wii. Same game as in America. All the songs were in English, and surprisingly, these kids know the words. They listen to a lot of American music, and It helps them with vocabulary, listening, and pronunciation. It's wonderful! Then I showed them the Cupids Shuffle, Casper Slide pt 2, and the Wobble. They showed me 2 songs in French that you do a dance too. They were a lot of fun! One was very similar to Cupids Shuffle.

Then this evening, we decided to take a bunch of pictures on my computer.

They're so cute!

  1. Lol that's so cute! I can't even bake out of a box let alone from scratch! Way to go, but seriously, how many kilograms are in a cup?
